Morning Thoughts

Elder Philip Conley

I Corinthians 1:18, "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God."

This morning, there is a lot in the world that we consider foolish, and there is a lot that the world considers foolish. Paul says here that the preaching of the gospel is foolish to the world. However, there is something very special in the preaching to the regenerate child of God that makes the occasion one of great joy and comfort.

Whenever someone looks in on one of our services, to the natural eye it would seem rather foolish. Groups of people are singing without instruments (perhaps one or two folks off-key). The praying is done in solemnity and humbleness to Someone who cannot be seen. The preaching is done by a man who may not be educated in the ways of the world, not the best orator, and not charismatic. To the natural man, this is foolishness and cannot be understood.

But when a child of God is in that same situation and the presence of the Lord is upon them, something within begins to reverberate. Something about Christ's love to them - a poor undone sinner - is revealed and manifested from faith to faith. God's undying righteousness is shown to them. Tears begin to roll down their face, and the kingdom has been increased at that moment. Another born-again child of God is now pressing into His vineyard to labor. This is nothing short of a miracle and the power of God.

In Hope,
Bro Philip
