Romans 12:3, "For
I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to
think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly,
according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith."
II Thessalonians
3:2, "And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men
have not faith."
This morning,
certain people still those that look to twist the written word to say what they
would desire, and yet others twist it to try to disprove it. One might claim
that these two verses are at odds with each other, but these verses deal with
different classes of people, which is dependant on the context. One might ask,
"Is God a respecter of persons or not?" It depends on what context we consider.
When thinking of sheep and goats, indeed He is a great respecter of persons.
However, all of His children (from the least unto the greatest) are loved by
Him, and such a case as His love shows that He does not respect persons in that
regard.
So, what do we
gather from whether a man has faith or not? Do all men have faith? Some men in
this world are wicked and unreasonable and cannot please God (for they have not
faith). We need to be in constant prayer that the LORD would deliver us from
these wicked men as He has in the past. We have liberties and freedoms that we
richly enjoy that our forefathers did not. However, these men try to change
such. But, when talking about regenerate children of God, we have all been dealt
the measure of faith. The same faith planted in one is planted in all.
Therefore, in God's house, we should not turn up our noses at the brethren, for
we are all on the same plane by the grace of God. While one may be blessed to
have more talents or have more insights, the Lord gave the talents and the
revelation of His Word, and the glory is His and not ours.
Also, men might
say, "Just have faith, and accept the blood of Christ to remove your sins."
However, herein lies a grave problem (no pun intended). Man must have faith to
please God. Therefore, how is man going to grab this faith by doing a pleasing
thing in the sight of God without it? On top of this, how does one that is dead
in trespasses and in sins do anything in the first place? Unless the Lord deals
that faith to us, we will remain vacant of it all of our days. So, now that we
know some men have faith and others do not, what manner of persons ought we to
be to show forth the faith the Lord has given us? While we should not decide who
we think is a child of God and who is not, may we live our lives in such a way
that men do not wonder about us. May we seek to walk soberly, righteously, and
in fear of the Lord until such time as He sees fit to call us home.
In Hope,
Bro Philip
