Psalm 85:10,
"Mercy and truth are met together;
righteousness and peace have
kissed each other."
This morning, these expressions
are very precious to
the Lord's children as they
journey through life's
uneven pathways. When one looks
at the world, there
is no mercy or truth meeting
together. In fact, these
concepts are alien and foreign
to the world.
Righteousness and peace will
never be found in the
world either.
There was one Person that these
traits were found in
in their fullness. That Person
is our Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ. When He
made atonement for our
sins, He fulfilled all the
righteousness that was in
the law, was full of grace and
truth, had mercy on His
people, and brought peace to the
Father on behalf of
His brethren. When one looks at
these traits, they
are not generally found
together. When someone has
truth and righteousness,
generally mercy and grace are
not on the scene. Likewise, when
someone finds grace
and mercy,
justice may not be served.
However, we
should
we thankful this morning that
Christ fulfilled and
paid our price by suffering the
justice of the Father
on our behalf. He did it out of
love for us, and our
sentence has been forever
removed from us. And, on
top of that, He did it gladly
(with mercy and peace).
It would have been enough to
have a saviour save us,
even if he had not wanted to.
However, He did it
gladly and was not ashamed to
call us His brethren.
Indeed, our Lord is exceeding
abundantly bountiful
to us, giving us more than we
could ever ask or think.
He paid the ultimate price, and
by doing so, gave us
more than these
finite minds can possibly comprehend.
In Hope,
Bro Philip
