Matthew 6:24, "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.  Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

This morning, there are many people that are guilty of not following this teaching of Christ. This is a commandment that even Primitive Baptists fail at from time to time. This is a commandment that leaves no room for flexibility. Today there is a prevailing thought called "moral relativism." Basically, folks say that whatever you feel to be right is right. The truth of the matter is that what God says is right without question or exception. In addition to that, God will not be served along with anything else.

Today, more often than not, when I have a religious conversation with an individual, somewhere in the conversation they will say, "Well I attend so-and-so church, but what really is important is that I'm a Christian. The differences between churches don't matter as long as we all follow Jesus." Most of the time, since I am just flowing with the milk of human kindness, at this point I really shock them when I say,
"Obviously, you and I don't serve the same God." God will not tolerate for worship of Him to be mixed with
anything else.

The people of Israel in the land of Samaria were taken into captivity for their mixed worship. They served God, but they served Him with all of the other so-called deities of the other nations. Today, many people are still serving God and mammon. Their job, family, social clubs, etc. are coming before their worship of the one true and living God of heaven. We MUST worship Him in spirit and in truth. He says it is a must, and if we serve Him, we must hold Him in high regard as well.Button back to previous
