Mark 13:31,
"Heaven and earth shall pass away: but
my words shall not pass away."
This morning, there are things
changing, decaying,
and dying all around us. People
change, friendships die,
loved ones pass away, society becomes worse,
and civilizations crumble. All
down through history,
there have been things that
seemed (at the time) like
they would stand forever.
However, all these things
shall pass away now or shortly
to come.
However, there is one thing that
we can have
confidence in that will not pass
away. The words of
the Lord will endure and stand
forever. Everything
that He says will always exist
and be just as sure
tomorrow and forever as it is
yesterday and today. If
Jesus Christ is the same
yesterday, today, and
forever, then everything that He
says must have the
same enduring
fashion.
Notice that the
verse says
"words" plural. This means that
the Lord is not just
talking about the Bible in
general. Every dot of
every “i” and every cross of
every “t” shall be preserved.
Not one jot or tittle shall be
removed or fail to
exist. This is comforting to
God's people today that
even with all the destruction
and misery that we see,
we can rest assured that the
promises of God are yea
and amen. (II Corinthians 1:20)
They do not change, and will never cease in
their existence. One comforting
stanza from a hymn
says, "When change and decay and
all around I see, O
Thou who changest not abide with
me." Amen and amen,
even so come
quickly Lord Jesus.
In Hope,
Bro Philip
