Jeremiah 23:28,
"The prophet that hath a dream, let
him tell a dream; and he that
hath my word, let him
speak my word faithfully. What
is the chaff to the
wheat? saith the Lord."
This morning, many people are
running around telling
their dreams like they are a
prophecy of things to
come, revelations of things
present and future, or
equivalent to the gospel of
Jesus Christ. Many of
these people say that their
dream is more to be
adhered to than the very word of
God. What they fail
to realize is that 99.9% of all
dreams are simply the
imagination running wild and
rampant, since the
conscious mind is absent.
The prophet Jeremiah said that a
dream, when
compared to the word of God, is
as chaff (dream) to
the wheat (word of God). That is
like comparing the
banana to the peel. One is good
for nutrition and
substance, and the other is fit
to be burned or thrown
away. These dreamers of dreams
are secondary in what
they say when compared to a man
bringing God's word.
When Jeremiah penned these
words, there was not
widespread access to the word of
God as there is
today. Therefore, the word was
very precious in those
days.
Today, we are all
without excuse, as we can
pick up a copy of the word of
God at most any general
store. We all have access to
read, study, meditate,
and think on God's word on a
daily basis. Therefore,
we have His word and should
speak that faithfully.
That is perhaps my biggest
downfall that I do not speak
His word as faithfully as I
should. The Bible speaks
of people running after seducing
spirits, cunningly
devised fables, and other such
foolishness. However,
let us never forget that the
true meat and nourishment
is in the word
and not the dream.
In Hope,
Bro Philip
