Galatians 3:16, "Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ."

This morning, there are many natural Jews that are just as proud of their heritage as the Jews during the days of the early church. They believe that the only hope for someone is to be of the natural seed of Abraham. However, Paul declares at the end of Galatians 3 that being in Christ is what makes one a child of Abraham by promise. The Jews would like to believe that being Abraham's makes them Christ's, but it is, in fact, really the other way around. To each "natural" Jew today, one can always ask them this question, "How do you know that you are a child of
Abraham?" If they are honest, they will reply that they cannot. For, our Lord sealed that when all of their records were destroyed in AD 70.

Now, many people today are questioning the validity of the Scriptures. They will say that there are errors in translations, men wrote them (therefore they have errors), or they will try to find many "contradictions" to validate their claims. Here, Paul bases his entire doctrinal argument on the preservation of one letter. He says that there was a promise to Abraham's SEED. This is so vitally important that Paul distinguishes that it is not SEEDS. Paul was persuaded that there was no possibility that some prophet writing down portions of the Old Testament could have slipped and missed or added a letter here and there.

No scribe copying down the prophets slipped either. Had there been any room for error, Paul could in no wise have made such a declaration.  Now, my question to Bible questioners today is, "Has anything changed since?" They will say that there were many more copies made, translations done, and other erroneous things that occurred. If such be the case, the divinely inspired author of the overwhelming majority of the New Testament was mis-guided. If such be the case, what reason do we have to take stock in any of it? If that is true, where is the flawless standard to go by? More often than not, Bible questioners are humanists that desire to put faith in themselves and sway others to do likewise.

Even if I knew nothing of the Bible, I have learned by difficult experience that I had better not have faith in myself.  For, I have let myself down numerous times and others as well. We do fail (even after regeneration).  Therefore, we need to have a standard to go by. The standard can be nothing other than God's divinely inspired written word that tells us of another standard of the Living Word. We read of that SEED that did all for us. We read of that sinless One that gave us the example for every situation. We read of the promises of the Lord that are sure and steadfast.  We finally read of the blessed time when that last promise shall be fulfilled, and we will see Him coming in the air with clouds, will all the holy angels, and ten thousands of saints! What a glorious theme, and let us never be persuaded by men that try to overturn our faith in the standard. "When change and decay and all around I see, O Thou Who changest not, abide with me."

In Hope,
