Acts 17:29,
"Forasmuch then as we are the offspring
of God, we ought not to think
that the Godhead is like
unto gold, or silver, or stone,
graven by art and
man's device."
This morning, nothing has
changed since Paul
preached this sermon.
Arminianism, Calvinism,
no-hellism, and all the other
heresies that plague us
today are not even close to the
biggest threat to the
church. The church's biggest
threat is and has always
been idolatry. This worship of
the creation more than
the Creator goes beyond bowing
the knee to an image.
This is doing or putting
anything before your Lord and
Saviour in your life. Christ
commanded His people to
seek the kingdom of God and His
righteousness FIRST.
If this commandment is not met,
then we are guilty of
idolatry.
It is in man's vain imagination
to worship what he
sees. He sees images, pictures,
"Christian symbols,"
etc. It is easy to claim that
one is a Christian
by wearing a cross around their
neck, or a bracelet on
their wrist, or have a fish on
their car. It is much
harder to "let your light so
shine before men, that they
may see your good works, and
glorify your Father which
is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)
Except by the eye of faith, we will
not see our glorified Saviour
this side of heaven and
immortal glory.
However, the Lord
told Thomas,
"Blessed are they who have not
seen and yet believed."
May we ever seek His face and
"feel after Him
although He be not far from
every one of us." (Acts 17:27) Then,
when we do feel His loving and
gracious presence, let
us not forget to be thankful
that He has seen fit to
bless poor wretches who feebly
try to praise Him in
our lives.
In Hope,
Bro Philip
